M1166 overview

M1166 takes the M1144 chemistry and stiffens it for heat. It is the endurance workhorse of the M range, a high-torque, high-temperature material with a long-standing reputation for refusing to fade when the discs are glowing at the end of a stint.

Built for sustained heat

Shear strength rises to 29.66 kN and compressibility at 400°C drops to just 0.55%, so the pad stays firm and the pedal stays consistent. Initial bite is firmer than M1144 without being snatchy, and the friction curve flattens through the 300–500°C window rather than climbing.

Saloon and sedan racing, touring cars, tarmac rally, quick single seaters and endurance events where the same corner arrives forty times in a race.

How does M1166 differ from M1144?

M1166 is the same family stiffened for heat. It has a firmer bite, far higher shear strength and stays consistent at temperatures where M1144 would begin to fade, at the cost of some of M1144's cold-start softness.

What replaced M1166?

MRM1805. It delivers more torque at around 0.57μ, is copper-free, and uses mechanical retention and a thermal underlayer for higher shear strength and a longer stint.
